Fun Facts
• The Yamato Stakes dates back to 1966. It was originally a turf race called Yamato Tokubetsu, switched to dirt in 1976, and became a modern open special around 2009–2010.
• The Tennozan Stakes is named after Mount Tennozan. The mountain was the decisive battleground of the 1582 Battle of Yamazaki, and “Tennozan” has since become a Japanese idiom meaning a decisive contest or make-or-break moment.
